Gatsby's dream is ruined by the corruption that it possess, just like the American Dream was ruined in the 1920s because of unworthy objects and materialistic things - money and pleasure. In the 1920s the Americans are trying to find an era or place where their dreams had value, Gatsby's longing for to rekindle the past love or time with Daisy -in Louisville- but nothing happens.
